Story behind Bangs Made Easy
Tanya Sluder and her 1st grade daughter Jill invented Bangs Made Easy. Jill had a project at school called an
"Invention Convention" and asked her mom to come up with something to solve a problem. Mrs. Sluder knew
the problem she needed to solve, something to help her trim Jill's bangs without getting hair in her eyes. "I had
recently looked at my local Wal-Mart for something to help me cut Jill's bangs and couldn't find anything, so that
was fresh on my mind when Jill approached me," said Sluder. Jill later decided she decided she did not want to
participate in this voluntary project so they dropped the idea, but a few hours before the start of the convention,
Jill suddenly changed her mind and asked her mom for help. So what did Mrs. Sluder do? "I did what any other
mother would do, I came to the rescue. I quickly grabbed a paper plate and fashioned it into a prototype and Jill
colored balloons on it, "Sluder said. After they demonstrated the invention, they came home, threw it in the
closet, and forgot about it, until it came time to trim Jill's bangs again. Because she dreaded the tension that
always developed between them, she decided to try it. She put the prototype on Jill's head and started trimming.
To her amazement, Jill did not even move, the brim caught the hair clippings and the bangs were straight
without the usual struggle between them. Mrs. Sluder knew that she had the product she had been looking for
and thought many other moms would love having one too, so the journey began to bring the product to the
marketplace. "But" laughed Sluder,"That is another story, and a rather long one."
